No pests.I only used it as a top soil, to replace a different soil which was infested with gnats, so I can't find a full review of the coconut coir's effect on plant growth. However, I can say that it was indeed easy to use. It expanded easily and beautifully when wet. I love that it is so compact, for easy storage and transport. I did not even notice the price until after I bought it but honestly I regret nothing. The coconut coir is light, fluffy and airy. I doesn't get compacted in the pot, so I imagine that allows roots to move freely. It feels light like freshly tilled soil. I'm curious about whether this wispy soil would keep heavy plants upright, though. It's barely heavy enough to keep my gnat traps upright. I understand why other reviewers chose to mix it with another soil for balance. Anyway, since it arrives dry and vacuum sealed, I have the confidence that the coconut coir brings no pests into my home. I will definitely buy this again soon. The 2 cylinders (15lb) covered the tops of 9 houseplants, but I need to totally repot a large snake plant which likely needs 30lb of soil itself.

These discs are about 5 inches in diameter and over 1 inch thick, so they would be fine for indoor plants, but they are great for outdoor potted plants since they expand (vertically) about five times their original thickness when watered. We put one in a pot with potting soil and it didn’t expand very much, but we put one in an empty pot, added water and it really puffed out a lot. After being “watered” it then can be spread around the pot easily and more can be added if necessary. Not very expensive and convenient to store, mainly due to its size.
